Postgraduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQ) – UESPI

The Postgraduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQ) at UESPI was approved in the 157th meeting of the CTC-ES, with the CNE/CES 46/2016 opinion, and published in the Official Gazette on August 19, 2016. The program has maintained a CAPES Concept 3 in its last quadrennial evaluation (2017-2020).

  • Research Lines:
    • Teaching of Chemistry
      • This research line aims to develop research aimed at qualifying and improving teacher training in Chemistry, producing teaching materials, proposing and evaluating new Chemistry teaching methodologies, and disseminating and popularizing science.
    • Applied Materials Chemistry
      • In this research line, the synthesis processes, structural, morphological, optical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical characterization of various materials (semiconductor oxides, molecular sieves, graphene, etc.) are studied experimentally and theoretically (computer simulation), as well as their applications as catalysts (advanced oxidative processes, hydrogen photogeneration, CO2 photoconversion, biofuel production), adsorbents, capacitors and in the development of solar cells.
    • Bioprospecting of Natural Products
      • This research line involves the isolation, identification, and structural elucidation of chemical constituents of plant species from the northeast region and the structural modification of these chemical species with a view to their use in pharmacology or as antioxidants in the food and biofuel industries. Drug design studies are also carried out via computer simulation.

  • Credits: Minimum of 33 credits, including 19 credits in courses, 4 credits in extension activities, and 10 credits in the dissertation

  • Eligibility: Holders of a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (Licentiate or Bachelor’s), Chemical Engineering, Physics, Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Environmental Engineering, Food Engineering, or related fields recognized by MEC or a CEE
